Wuhan 13th February 2008
Hi,
After the 3 gorges cruise and the 6 odd hour coachride afterwards, I finally arrived at the end destination of Wuhan.
Just really a big Chinese city, think population about 8 million. Nothing to do here really.
Checked into the hostel with my 5 travelling companions and managed to get some decent hostel rooms. Only big issue was that there was no hot water...so more days without a shower and with 2 pairs of long johns on I am not sure if I will need to get into the shower to peel them off eventually.
Still on the first night we all managed to get to the Mc Donalds for a feast of big macs! I have never eaten 2 one after another before tonight, so set myself a new pigging out record!
Oh, footnote, taxis in China are really interesting outside of Beijing and Shanghai. For starters it one of the lower jobs so about 80% cant read and 100% cannot speak any other language. So for this evening, we skillfully got the receptionist in the hostel to write out "take us to the closest mc Donalds in chinese" only to give it to the taxi driver who shot off at a breaknexk speed!
First he took us to a KFC after we signalled we wanted food, and then when that was shut, he drove us for 3 miles to another closed KFC! Finally got him to stop outside Mc D when we were driving past it!
When we got back to the hostel the receptionist told us the above and also that even if the driver hasnt a clue of where you want to go he will set off anyhow... mainly because it starts running up a fare!
China...what a place.
