Hi....you have to laugh or else you would cry.
After a day and a half in bed, I decided with only 1 full day left I simply had to go and finish seeing the temples of Angkor. I mean, I have travelled this far and was not going to be put off just by a few cuts and bruises.
Also I needed to see if I could ride the bike again as the following day I had to ride it 300kms back to phnom penh or if not, hire a pick up truck to take me and the bike back...
So, after bandaging myself up - this took like an hour! - I got on the bike. Fine riding, the difficult part is using the clutch and brake, both being on the handlebars and with my wrists in agony - not easy I can tell you.
So picture this - me on the bike, bandaged up like something out of the film "the mummy" (great setting around the temples!) and everytime I change gear, brake or go over a pothole (so every 5 seconds really) swearing and cursing at the top of my voice. What the locals must of thought I dont know....the Yanks looked pretty confused as well, but then they always do dont they?
Managed most of the day before the throbbing got too much.
On the 17th I got up really early, like 6am to start to thrip to phnom penh. coming up it was 4 hours, but thought it may take me 10 on the way back especially if i needed a long break. The good news was once out of Seim Reap the road was good class of surface with hardly any potholes, no gear chnaging or breaking, just cruising along and so not to bad. took me 6 hours in all with several stops. the worst part was coming into and going around Phnom Pehn as it was all stop and start and gears and breaking....oouch!
Managed to get to the bike shop (I had cleaned up the bike and helmet), and before going in, took off all my bandages so I looked normal. Bike delievered back all ok and no additional charges for any damage! result!! It was a good bike really and I did love riding it around and the freedom and the sightseeing.
Spent the evening celebrating my days hard trip with more than a few angkor beers ina few bars. Medicinal you understand to take away the pain and help me sleep.
Hope everyone is fine in IOM/UK/Jersey.....I am OK and well on the mend!
Wont forget Cambodia in a hurry!
All the best
Steve
