We have two specific trips planned that will take place over the next couple of years. The first trip will be a one or two week stay in a rented cottage in the beautiful countryside in the Normandy region of Northern France. The second trip will be on a far grander scale- a month or so spent driving across Europe. Normandy will give us the opportunity to test my driving skills on foreign roads before we embark on our European jaunt.
So far, we have done a little bit of research, & bought a few necessary items for our trips: a few guide books, a tent & a Euro driving kit that includes warning triangles, headlight bulbs & a first-aid kit, among other things.
We have laid out a preliminary route for our European road trip, which is as follows: Bruges, Brussels, Nuremberg, Munich, Innsbruck, Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples, Dubrovnik, Sarajevo, Sofia, Belgrade, Bucharest, Sibiu, Budapest, Krakow, Prague, Berlin, Hannover, Amsterdam + a few ferry journeys in between.
We've looked at a few places to stay & things to do, but have mainly concentrated our research on local laws (especially driving) & required documents. We've also started on a 'what to pack' list that will inevitably grow longer & longer the closer we get to the trip, but, for now, we're just going to work harder on the route & itinerary.
