well, Singapore was the first cab off the rank... a quick little visit to catch up with my buddy SQ. SQ and I shared the Indian tour I did last year. Gorgeous boy who was the most fantastic host. I swear if he comes to visit Melbourne I will be in all sorts of striffe.. Not only did he play the perfect host, took me to the touristy things, did the very big wheel thingy (you know, like the London eye) .. did this at dusk which was really cool, went over to Sentosa island and he also took me out to dinner (de'gustation 7 or 8 courses nevertheless) to a restaurant that was on the 71st floor of a rather imposing building. Was amazing... SQ's ex girlfriend, who he's trying to make his girlfriend again, joined us for dessert. Nice chick who should have been enjoying the 8 courses with her ex as opposed to meeting the aussie chick who she thought was going to be 6 foot tall (yep!) , blonde (oh yeah) and surfs (she was close!) .. needless to say after a few gins, dessert and laughs she figured I was whitty, mature and certainly no competition.. oh, did I gorget to tell you my friend SQ is all of 27!.. yes, she really should have been worried !..
I dont think Id do a very good job at writing for Lonely Planet if I was speak about Singapore. Despite my friend living there I found the place a tad souless and a little too clean (is there such a thing) .. I wondered if all the rubbish had been swept under the rug and if it was going to pour out at any moment along with the homeless, vampires and ex-politicians!. I'm sure if I went back with my shopping chicks (Kerford, for some strange reason your name comes to mind) I'd probably have a bit of shopping fun, but really, does the world need a three mile long street that has Chadstone Shopping Centres all along it ? ... not my gig I'm afraid.
What did fit me nicely was a little venture to the iconic Raffles. Gorgeous gorgeous building that I swear has been renovated to its original glory just for my benefit. It is such an amazing building with extraordinary history, plush, decadent and oh so for the lover of all things old. I would have dived into having a singapore sling just for the hell of it but it was morning tea time during my visit so the best I could do was a club sandwich close to 12 with a cuppa tea!...
