My phone woke me at 7.09 this morning. It was a mobile number that i didn't know. I considered not answering it. But decided that it would be for the best. It was Linda. Linda is the onsite manager who takes care of all of the temp workers who have been hired by Adecco, the recruitment company, for 'Cirque du Soleil'. 'Hi Skye, It's Linda from Cirque du soleil. You were rostered on to work at 7am.' I had to explain to her that i hadn't heard from Adecco and that i was at mum and dad's place on the coast. It would be a couple of hours before i could get there. She said she would try to find someone else and if not, she'd call me back. DAng!!! What a start to my new job! It wasn't my fault but no matter what the circumstances, it doesn't look great when you don't turn up to your first shift in a new job. Anyway, i was kind of glad that i get to have another day off because lately, i just feel like sleeping. Erin and Lenny get back from their honeymoon in New Zealand tomorrow and i want to go home and clean the place up and make some chocolate chip biscuits for the newlyweds, since i feel a little bit imposing, staying in the marital unit immediately after the wedding. They assure me that it is totally ok because they've been living together for the last 5 years anyway. So i'll just go with that until the circus leaves town or they kick me out. Whichever comes first. The main reason i may be kicked out is due to black hair making its way into every nook and cranny in the unit.
So after the phone call, Beth and I went for a walk down to the beach. I think i might have got a tan even though i put sunscreen on. I'm attempting a moon tan this year so i'm hoping for the best with the whole 30+ sunscreen. 'I'm a little bit uneasy about not having any idea what i'm going to do next year' I said to Beth. 'Well, maybe the circus will take you with them'. 'They're going to Auckland next but i don't have any accomodation'. 'Well you get paid ok, you could find some accomodation there.' 'Hmm. I had considered it. I've never been to New Zealand before, might be a bit of fun. And then afterwards, they go to Canberra for 2 weeks and Melbourne for 2 months. That would be pretty awesome.'
So, i suppose i'll just have to leave it to fate. I mean, who knows, these clowns/performers might be a bunch of fools, or they might be the coolest people on earth. I'm not doing the best job in the world, it's in the dining room. I thought it might be fun to hang out with these people from all over the world. None of the 'front of house' people get to hang out with the performers. So i figured this would be the best job (apart from wardrobe). So if i'm right in thinking, i'll be giving knifes and forks and coffees to a troupe of chinese midget acrobats and tightrope walkers with the odd bearded lady thrown in. Can't be all bad. Anyway, i start tomorrow. 4pm til Midnight. Those shifts are pretty nasty in the final hours but if the people are good, then who can complain.
