Sun 27th,Another long train journey but the best one we have had nice and smooth and got plenty of sleep we did'nt even need to play eye spy which was a big bonus despite all the research I had done.Arrived in Hong Kong at 13.30 a good time to get there, got out of Hom Hon station and straight into the taxi to the Mirador Mansion Hostel,it looked just like a shopping arcade but walked in, was asked about 15 times if we would like a GENUINE COPY WATCH or a suit made,(100's of times before the visit was over)got to the reception on the 13th floor where 1 bloke sits on a chair with a small desk.we had booked an ensuite room but he showed us a really basic room with a tiny shower/toilet opposite and outside our room,we very quickly upgraded to a proper en suite room for an extra y500(crafty git)Hong Kong is quite an expensive place to stay the money we payed here we would have had a nice place in China.Had a walk around checking out where to go for New Year's eve,we popped into Murphy's Irish bar,bit expensive 4.50 happy hour then goes up to 6quid but good place so we were sorted, watched the Arsenal beat Villa 3 0 in another bar then back to our little paradise.
Mon 28th,Not a lot to report today,we were already planning our next place to visit,Vietnam so we were busy finding some prices for flights and hotel, found an STA travel agency so knew they would help us out, sure enough they worked thier magic and the next phase was done.back for a back street meal and a chance to try a different beer.
Tues 29th,Not really a great deal to do and see in HK but admire the views, thats why we had to do a 2 day open top bus scenic tour, most expensive 1 yet 32 pounds for both tours,we did the Hong Kong island one today, not great but quite interesting the best part we were looking forward to was the cable car ride up Victoria peak to see the best views of Hong Kong, would have been great but we could just about see the hands in front of our faces so we took pictures of them instead, never mind we would be back.Packing up again ready for a bit of luxury a pre booked hotel on the other side on Kowloon.
Wed 30th,moved out of our shooping arcade and arrived 15mins later at our plush hotel,we got a great deal on this one,we paid 75ponds for 3 nights when we got here we saw that the daily price was 100pounds,you appreciate these places a bit more after staying in dives, did the 2nd part of the bus tour today,Kowloon, again not great but the weather was good and the sights are so different that it's all worth while, went back into town to book our drinks tickets and table for Murphys New Year's eve do.
Thurs 31st,Gearing up!walked around watching people getting ready for the night of celebrations,we started off about 5ish with a nice Italian pizza which bloated us so we walked around to work it off,got into Murphy's about 6.30 and tried a couple of shandy's mmmmm very nice,Lina our American friend joined us which was great as she has been travelling around on her own(hats off to her)so we talked about our adventures, the band came on about 9ish,we had our merrackers(right spelling?)at the ready and we were rocking,at 11.30 thought we would take the 5mins walk to the river side, bad move we should have left 2hrs earlier the place was packed so we stayed where we were and enjoyed the atmosphere and the fireworks we could see, back to the bar for 1 or 2 more shandy's.was definately think about the folks back home,HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.
Fri 1st,Table for 1?our plan today was to go horse racing but I was the only one who managed it,mixture of drink and lack of sleep had caught up with the others so I went on my own, nice little trip 1st on the local small bus then a short ride on the tube. It's a lovely course, big and new with some nice food mmmm beef with noodles, once I found out how to have a bet I was away losing my money might have had a couple of winners if Liam was there with me but really enjoyed it.Had a nice walk along the front and watched the regular laser show at 8pm a poor substitute for the night before.
Sat 2nd,Time up in the Regal and moving to the Renaissance hotel for 1 night, for a few more quid than the Mirador we got a bit of quality, spent over 3hrs in the History Museum today, some of the history I have learned over the past 2 months about the countries we have visited has been fasinating,Hong Kong no exception although not quite as interesting as China's,then went to the Space Museum to see a documentry about the history of the dinasaur again very interesting.
Sun 3rd,Last day in Hong Kong before flying to Hanoi(Vietnam)midnight tonight, the visability was good so we paid 3hkd about 30p to get the ferry to Central on Hong Kong island and head back up Victoria Peak this time the wait was worthwhile the views were fantastic and we managed to get some great photo's,we were so pleased we celebrated with a nice meal in Burger King,it just gets better and better.Picked up our bags from the lovely hotel and got on the airport coach 33hkd about 30quid,(public transport in Hong Kong is cheap)50 mins later we were on the other island Lantu where the impressive new airport is,got there 3 hrs early so had plenty off time to try some Thai food, very nice and cheap, will be even better when we are there.Hanoi only a 2hrs flight so nice and easy and only 7hrs in front.
