After one night in Stone Town I headed to Nungwi. The beach is absolutely gorgeous...the sand is pure white and the sea is super torquoise and you can see through to the bottom. After a couple of days into my stay I was upgraded to an ocean view room which was marvellous. I spent my time sitting on the big balcony just staring out into the sea and reading.
I have spent a few days mostly reading and relaxing either by the pool, beach or on the balcony...absolute dream. The food was amazing too, although most of it was Western it was really incredible!
Whilst staying here I went on a sunset cruise boat trip and the sunsets were absolutely stunning. The sun is so red and literally looks like it sinks into the water. The hotel was great as it was West facing so you saw sunset each evening.
I also went to Prison Island which was built as a prison but ended up being a quarantine hospital for slaves that caught infectious diseases during their journeys to Zanzibar. The Island was so beautiful and randomly has giant tortoises which were gifted to Zanzibar by the Seychelles. It is now a reserve for these tortoises and has to be guarded by soldiers as otherwise poachers used to come and take or kill the tortoises!
What I learnt at Nungwi:
* Beach boys do exist.
* Zanzibar sunsets are absolutely breath-taking.
* To get on a boat to anywhere you have to wade into the water hip height - there are no jetties.
* The younh guys working on boats are really friendly and just want everyone to have fun. Some people were jumping from the roof of the boat into the water at sunset.
* The water is actually quite warm so going for a swim isn't that refreshing.
