Early start.... Mainly since I got barely any sleep whatsoever... The showers we cleanish and after a night sweating on the plastic mattress it was a necessity! But toileting was entertaining... You had to take your toilet paper into the toilet with you from the dispenser in the bathroom.... Now don't be fooled into thinking that this is a simple idea.... Problem number 1.... Not realising that this was the case thus being paperless.... Problem 2.... Underestimating the amount required!
Then it was off to explore this town... Which didn't open til 10am... It was 8am! But at least light this time...! And there was an ATM! Phew.... We are not going to have to be stuck here!!! So meandered around the town...Took a stroll around the shops, the monastery and climbed all 256 stairs upto the top... Looked around the Buddhist museum... Which would have been interesting, if I could speak Chinese... Then a solid 256 steps back down...! There is a theatre in the town showing "walking with the Buddha" so we thought we would check it out! It's so cheap here... We can't quite believe it...HK$36 which is about £3! Well that was quite the experience... Not a traditional theatre as you would expect...We got given headphones and had the story told to us, first we stood in a courtyard where the gong was banged and we had to bow to Buddha, before entering a room set up a bit like a stage set, a cartoon movie played with all the lights and props around the room illuminating... Then we were moved into a different room when the next scene was due.... We were then ushered to make a wish... Given a leaf and placed it into a tree (i cant tell you my wish incase it doesnt come true.....) before reading all of the paths to enlightenment of Buddhism..! Sounds bizarre, but it was actually really effective...and in fact math, I think you could learn a lot from the type of stage production and maybe in sound of music move the audience like cattle to different parts of Barry colosseum..?! Just a thought ;)
Then it was off to the monastery for lunch which was veggie... Now the pretend meat wasn't too great, but other than that it was ok, complete with Chinese tea and a bowl of soup to start...and chopsticks to eat with...no not for the soup silly!!
I think we had exhausted all activities in the town and it was time to collect our suitcases and head for the city.... In the light it was certainly obvious as to why we were so petrified last night... Though as you can imagine it wasn't nearly half as scary in the daylight!!
A bus ride to the city of Tung Chung and a walk around the shops with all of our luggage.... Hmmm now you would think that this was bizzare, and that no one would do it, but no.... Almost everyone has cases to shop with... To put everything that they have bought!!!! Along with a few others that are on the way to/from the airport.... So much so that a shop offered a luggage holding service whilst we looked around!!! Then we found the official luggage storage whilst we looked around the area and did a bit of a rekkie.... Nothing of great interest and tbh I'm exhausted, but since we will be sitting and waiting around for so long later, thought we should at least try and do some more discovering... But now we are sitting with an ice drink (ps hong kong is hot and sweaty and really humid) people watching, writing journals and about to order food before leaving for the airport....!
I took £40 equivalent out of the cash point today, and so far have bought a 2 course lunch, 2 ice pops, 3 drinks, some presents (very nice for you 2 lucky people who have nabbed the hong kong leg present and me, I like to treat myself in every country) 2 busses, dinner and still have xzxvsf remaining.... We should have done our elective in HK..... I would have spent at least triple that in oz!!! Jesus!
