Although everyone told us we would absolutely LOVE Barcelona, we were both very happy to heading to Sevilla this morning. We were on the train by 8:00 am this morning, and driving full speed ahead thirty minutes later. Unfortunately our train had multiple stops, and although they didn't take long, it was slightly frustrating. However, since we still traveled at 300 km/hr in between, we can't really complain. It was a 5 ½ hour train ride; for the first two hours Jayne slept while Sam kept herself busy, then we watched She's the Man (there was even an outlet so we didn't have to worry about the computer dying), and then we simply enjoyed the view, the resting of our feet and each other's company until we finally made it to Sevilla.
Our original plan was to walk from the train station to our hotel, but when we got out to the street we realized we had no idea which direction to go and opted to catch a taxi. It was the best decision we have made in long time! It cost us 10 euros, but as we avoided getting seriously lost in the wrong direction, it was well worth it.
We were dropped off just a couple of blocks from El Rey Moro, and were able to find the hotel without difficulty. As we walked down the side street to the front desk, it literally felt as though we entered into paradise. There is a beautiful courtyard with a fountain in which all the rooms look out to, flowers growing in all directions, and superb service. We were led to a tiny but perfectly sweet purple themed room (see our pictures) where we instantly felt at home. It was definitely a nice change of scenery from Barcelona.
After we were settled, we took a walk through the streets to get our bearings in the new city. It will be difficult to get lost here as we are located very close to the oldest and most expansive cathedral in all of Sevilla. The cobblestone streets and timely buildings made wandering a pure pleasure. We were starving as we had barely had anything to eat all day, but it was only about 4pm and a weird time to eat in Spain. Thank you Starbucks for being located on every street corner wherever we go! After we each had a berry yogurt with granola, we were refueled and ready to continue exploring. We walked to the river, around the park, and through a gorgeous government building. After returning to our hotel and getting washed up, we ate dinner in our hotel restaurant where we received two complimentary drinks. Rose for 2! We each had an Andalusian meal that filled us up comfortably. Our waiter was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
With full bellies, we took a stroll through the neighborhood surrounding our hotel. After wandering in circles for a while, we found our way back to El Rey. We spent some time on the rooftop lounge, then headed down to Skype with la familia. Looking forward to a full day tomorrow!
