So Laos, farewell my friend.
Its taken three weeks, most of it rainy, but has left me with an overwhelming fondness for this poor country.
How to summarise? So many books talk about how great this place is, and i can only agree with them and all the travellers you meet who wax lyrical about the friendliness of this peaceful country.
Whilst the Americans did their best to ruin it during the Vietnam war (over half the country is still covered with unexploded ordnance) it has only recently taken to tourism and is still learning the ropes. Communist? Not really on the surface.
The jungle is beuatiful and unspoilt, the treks are eco-friendly and look after the locals villagers. Its has some of the best waterfalls ever seen, the local whiskey Lao Lao is a superb drink and they have tubing, a phenonom i hope they keep to themselves.
Its a funny place, the people, whilst friendly almost seem lazy and disinterested at times, but you cant criticise. In 10 or 15 years this place could turn into a Thailand or Singapore, but i hope it retains its charms.
It rained almost all day every day, but still you feel at home.
And as all the locals ask:- "Will you return?" I hope so!!!
I now leave and take the bus (hopfully the last backbreaker!) to Cambodia.
