I left Vegas and travelled south on the road which goes over the Hoover Dam, along the dam wall. It was pretty cool, but it was not as big as I expected.
I stopped in Boulder City for a coffee & headed south on 93, and then turned east at Kingman onto the 40. There is a section of Route 66 that runs along this way, but I thought to take it on the way back.
I stopped in Williams which seems to be a pretty cool place. Its a very provincial town and there was a fair amount of snow around. They also have a rodeo there which I have to say I quite fancy.
I turned north on the 64 which goes into the Grand Canyon. It was $25 to get in, but the ticket lasts 7 days. I had already reserved a room - into the Maswik Lodge. Pretty basic accommodation, but it'll do. There was masses of snow in the park & on the way to the laundry I spotted some little deer. b***** the laundry was closed.
Dinner was at the Bright Angel Restaurant. They have a viewing point so I got my first glance of the actual canyon. It was a little late for photos, but still impressive.
