Right,
Yesterday we managed to get to Osaka, which is mostly towering buildings and shopping arcades (bashi). Although we had to hang around for trains on that day it was pretty good. Was a nice change from temples. lol.
And today I went to the North West section of Kyoto to see a few things such as; the Ryoanji Temple, Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavillion), and Daitokuji Temple.
The Ryoanji is a garden temple, the most famous being the Rock Garden. It is a Zen garden, where there are no trees. Only fifteen rocks and white gravel are used.
"It is up to each visitor to find out for themselves what this unique garden signifies. The longer you gaze at it, the more varied your imagination becomes." (Straight from the handout).
I spent about 30mins sat down by it, and I must admit is very relaxing. Especially since it was raining.
The Kinkakuji Temple or Golden Pavillion (original name Rokuon-ji) was also really worth seeing. The shogun Yoshimitsu built it after abdicating the Ashikaga throne in 1394. See for yourself in the pics. Also, it had stopped raining by then so the sun was complementing it as well.
Off to the South East tomorrow to see the Fushimi-inari-taisya Shine and Toji Temple tomorrow. May have time to do an update. If not, should be able to on Monday.
Cheers all!
