For the first time since we left home we arrived somewhere without a place to stay. Backpacks securly and heavily in place and lonley planet quide to the ready and the search began! For everyones information, sweltering heat and heavy backpacks do not mix!
Although lovely, most people we'd spoken to said that koh samui was very busy and crambed with tourist, far more commercialised that what we'd been accustomed to in koh panghan. So for sanitys sake we heade to the slightly less busy Lamai beach. For three hours we walked down the beach in search of somewhere nice (and cheap) to stay and finally found the Utopia Bungalows.
Our bungalow was now where near as nice as where we had come from. Unfortionatly it had no hammock on the terrace (or a terrace for that matter) and no hot water, the door didnt lock too well and the walls had gaps in them where the wood had got damp, but it wasnt too bad and came with free breakfast and sunloungers on the beach so we stayed.
The last three days came and went in a sunny haze. We filled our intire days with sunbathing, eating and sleeping. I think we did some reading, but thats about it. Its a shame about the sand mights and mosquitoes though, all that lazing about makes you a prime target.
The becah here is really nice. Quite busy but there is lots of sand so you dont feel too squished. The down side is that you cant sit for more than five minutes without being hounded by someone trying to sell you something or other. And it seems they always head for the pailest on the beach, 'fresh meat' i quess!
