The beginning of todays 34 km hike was relatively steep and vegetation looked Mediterranean with olive trees and winegrowing (the famous "Dolceaqua"). Later forest dominated, but the second part of the trail was rather boring because I walked all day on an old military road. I met 2 hikers, 2 lizards, 1 snake, 3 guys on a moped, 3 duck-similar, very shy, brown birds, and about 20 cows.
The encounter with the cows was quite exciting, because they gathered in a tunnel that I had to pass as well. Two young bulls guarded the tunnel, they snorted unfriendly and lowered their heads, when they saw me. I decided, therefore, to climb over the tunnel, but there was a reason why people once thought a tunnel would be a good idea at that place. It was too steep to get to the other side and I had to climb down again. Now mentally prepared, I grabbed my hiking poles (like a prehistoric hunter) and was ready for the cows. I clapped my hands and shouted something at them. Reluctantly they moved and made way for me although the mother cows were a bit upset because they got separated from their calfs in all that turmoil. Luckily, after a little while, they were all happily united again and I continued.
(So Anca, today you cannot complain that the English part is shorter. The whole cow story was exclusively written in this second part:-).
