Ben & Sara's Trip
Well a load has happened since our last entry so thought I'd better split it into a couple of entries!!
In our last entry we were in Santa Barbara and had booked into our first Dorm of the trip. The whole experience was no where near as bad as we had thought and we actually got a top nights sleep. In the morning we headed to the harbour and walked across the breakwater before heading to the Maritime Museum which was pretty boring to be fair! We then headed back to the hostel and picked up the car and made our way out of town and towards LA. On the way we stopped off at Lompoc which was a real yokel type of place, the girl in Taco Bell looked at us like we were weirdo's when she thought it was one of our scheduled stops!! Anyway we continued on the way down towards LA and Venice Beach where we had booked our accommodation for the rest of our time in the US. Upon arriving in Venice on Sunday we realised that the car was probably going to be a pain in the arse as there was no parking or anything. This meant we had to return it early to the rental company as not only was there nowhere to park it was drinking petrol like it was going out of fashion. So we headed to LAX and returned the car and then got a bus back. It was at this point Sara helpfully pointed out that we should have left our luggage at the hostel and thus not had to carry it all the way across LA!! Still when do we ever do the easy thing!!
Monday we decided we would spend in Hollywood, having talked to our Danish roommates they said it was a good way to spend a day. Therefore we headed out to Hollywood having booked our Disney and Universal tours for later this week. Hollywood was really cool, we spent a couple of hours walking down the Walk of Fame and outside Mann's Chinese Theatre we decided to do a Hollywood tour. We went on a tour of Beverley Hills' Sunset Boulevard, Rodeo Drive and Hollywood. The Beverley Hills section was mainly talking about stars who lived there and little anecdotes about them. There were about 30 paparazzi camped outside the gate of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' house, pretty bizarre!! Having done that we headed off to the farmers market where we had dinner before heading home for the night.
Tuesday was a fairly early start as we were off to Anaheim to spend the day in Disneytland. It was an absolutely fantastic day, especially as me and Sara are both big kids!! There were too many great rides to mention but the highlights were probably the Indiana Jones ride, Splash Mountain where Sara got drenched, Space Mountain and the Buzz Lightyear ride. We also met Winnie The Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, Mickey and Minnie. I felt like a right jackass in the queue with all these young kids but Sara was insistent!! All in all Disneyland was easily one of the highlights of the trip so far.
Wednesday we spent in Venice Beach, just chilling out and doing our laundry and also trying to conserve some funds as America is a lot more expensive than we'd expected!!
So that takes us from Sunday through to Wednesday, I'll add another entry for the second part of our time in the USA.
