So, finally my first blog of the trip, long overdue, but it's here now :). It's day number ten of the trip so far and we have been in Hong Kong for the last six of those, flying to Bangkok tomorrow and i cannot wait! Although i'm not looking forward to the chaos, anyway enough about that!
The first 5 days were spent in Beijing, fantastic city that has a bit of everything, great history and culture but is also ultra-modern in places. We didn't get to see everything we would have liked to in Beijing but we deffinately made the most of our time there. The main spots we visited was the forbidden city, where i might have been conned into buying an overpriced picture!! Haha, nevermind. Also the great wall of course, the wall was exactly how i imagined it to be actually, very glad that i can say i have climbed the wall and that i am officially a real man now according to chinese legend! Haha. Also on the tourist trail was the Olympic Park, another must do i suppose. Huge huge place and i could imagine it rocking with poeple when the olympics was on. The only downside to Beijing was how freaking cold it was, but i loved Beijing, and wish that we had more time to travel the country in depth, but i will deffinately be back in the future.
After the 24 hour train journey from Beijing we made it to lush tropical Hong Kong and i instantly felt energised knowing that there some beautiful weather waiting outside for us :). Hong Kong is deffinatly a place of east meets west, very commercialised and touristy, very different to Beijing. We found ourselves by Hong Kong standards a very cheap room, around 5 pound 70 a night each, but the price is reflected in the room. Well, we're not in Hong Kong to sit in a room are we! The weather the first two days after we arrived was fantastic, but after that we've just had cloudy misty days, still around 20 degrees though. So what have we done in Hong Kong, we have been to 'the peak'. The highest viewing point in Hong Kong, amazing views of both Hong Kong and Kowloon (where we are staying) and also the surrounding islands. A few nights ago i went to my first ever horse race meeting, and what a place to start! Only costs about 80p to get into the ground and watch the races, plus however much you want to gamble away of course. Great experience and the stadium was worth the visit alone. Today we have been to the worlds largest outdoor bronzed seated buddha, but let's be honest how many is there!?!? Either way it was HUGE, and set in a beautiful location as well!
Okay Time to wrap it up now, next move is up to our room to pack for the day of travelling tomorrow, hope your all well and i will blog when i can next be bothered!! Preferably in 30 degree heat with a beer in my hand!
