Woke up to another beautiful day which, as the day progressed, by 4pm turned into a torrential downpour. We all walked Jean to her choir day and then at 9am went on a tour of the Rotorua museum. Rotorua is home to the Arawa people and a large part of the exhibition is based upon their history. There was a short movie on the Tarawera eruption which occurred in 1886. This was the last time this volcano erupted. The Te Arawa display is a wonderful history of the Maori people from their arrival in NZ to present and included a movie about the Maori battalion which saw action in WW2 in Greece, Crete, Egypt, and Italy. 3700+ Maori were shipped there and more than half were casualties. There was a lot of Maori artwork on display. The carvings done by the Maori, who had no written language, was incredibly complex and intricate. We also toured the bath area under the museum which was very hot and depressing. The baths were the original reason why the building was constructed and people were treated for various ailments with the healing mud from the mud pits in the area. It proved too difficult to maintain the baths and eventually the building was turned into a museum. In the evening, we attended another choir concert. It started with the New Zealand Youth Choir who were so wonderful to listen to. Their last song was Te Iwi e arranged by Te Whanau Wehi. I believe it is a traditional Maori song and was complete with very graceful hand movements by the women and men. It was truly beautiful to watch. The second part of the program was The Idea of North again and they were even better than the night before. They did 2 songs that had everyone rolling in the aisles. One was "Blue Bayou" by Roy Orbison but they had changed the words to my toupee blew by you. The second was a collaboration of 2 media giants as they did Andrew Lloyd Weber's song Music of the Night to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho.

Liz Amazing what you can find on youtube. I found The Idea of North's rendition of Blue Bayou there. Quite delightful! We can share a little piece of your concert. Thanks!
