We've checked out of our hotel, and are sitting in an internet place across the road, trying to waste some hours before our flight at 8.30 this evening. we can't check in online for this flight so we're hoping check in at the airport won't be too much trouble.
our 8 hour train journey ran perfectly yesterday so wasn't really an ordeal at all, which was a bit of a relief. we haven't bothered to see much of mumbai - as i said in the previous blog, we probably would have been covered in paint; there was an article in the paper saying that there were toxic chemicals in the dyes or something, so we decided not to bother going out! consolation was found in the number of channels offered by our hotel tv; we even managed to catch a bit of the england test, as well as newcastle's first win under King Kev.
we ate in the hotel last night and the food was very nice, but the organisation of bills afterwards was epicly poor - it simply would not happen at ASK or The Kennels! Nari, our guide, even had to threaten them with a deadline for giving people their bills or change back, otherwise we would not be paying! they marginally managed to meet this deadline, though i'm sure most of the change was wrong!
we said goodbye to most of our group this morning - inevitably certain members of the group disappeared without so much as a mumbled farewell in anyone's direction! we've now got some more contacts around the world, including three people in canada. we'll probably meet up with a couple in australia as well, as they're moving to Sydney; so our contacts for australia are looking pretty good, given the people we met on our first trip as well!
we're really excited about new zealand now. we've planned what our first decent salad in a long while will comprise, and are looking forward to going to the supermarket, having some bbqs, getting some washing done, and communicating easily with people - i doubt hindi will be too much of a problem in New Zealand! we have learnt one very useful hindi phrase though, 'run away, mooncat', which has been directed at persistent children or sweaty train station porters on certain occasions!
when i can think of anything else worth informing you of i will do so, as our internet use in new zealand should be fairly regular.
