Hey Guys!!!
Sorry for the delay you wouldnt believe all the fun were having and been so busy!!!
Well after Wellington, our first stop was Kaiteriteri and it was time to get the hiking boots out and begin our biggest challenge to date, a 5 hour trek through the forest in the heat. However it turned out to be a beautiful walk and Abel tasman national park was one of the highlights of New Zealand. We were slightly disspointed that our friends managed to get a luxury ensuite 4 bed dorm fully equiped with a fridge while we were in a 10 bed dorm with smelly boys! Yuk!!!!! Well the joke was on them when the following morning Ikea showed up and men with tools (not a good mix) started building another 3 bunk beds to fit in their room!! Haha. Sam (being Sam) was very concerned and thought she was being helpful by asking "But you've still got your ensuite right?" No sam they took that with them in only an hour!! hahah bless her. :)
So if you have been on facebook and seen the pictures of us in bin bags you may have been wondering what on earth we were doing. Well the kiwi bus has a stop at Lake Manihipua (or to the kiwi bus known as the 'Poo Pub') which is basically sheds with bunk beds and a fancy dress party with an excuse to get hammered. So we did. Hence the awful pictures, horrendous hangovers and impressive use of bin bags.
Our next stop was the amazing Franz Josef Glacier. So the trip began with us heading to the supermarket buying any food high in sugar for energy (or said it would give you energy) and then we embarked on a 9 hour hike up the glacier. After the hike, sliding under sheets of ice and crawling through an ice cave, we had only eaten our sandwiches! Haha. Following morning, up at 6.30am (slightly aching) for a 7.30am depart, we hear a loud alarm... slightly panicking Sam yells first of all to Sian, "Sian turn your bloody rape alarm off! Youll wake up the whole building! We then soon realised that it was not the rape alarm and so she shouted to Mark "Mark! Take that towel off the heater! We've set the fire alarms off!!" and we departed the hostel only to find out that it happens every morning at the same time! (personally i think it was the kiwi drivers trying to get us all up! hahaha)
We then made our way to Lake Wanaka where I did my skydive at 12,000 feet, and Sam took part in boot camp with the canadians. Well after I looked after Sam and carried her back up the stairs in the hostel when we got to Queenstown we worked out that Sam is allergic to excercise. :D
Well Queenstown was amazing. Full of messy nights with teapots, fully bellies of Ferg Burgers the size of my head (google it you know you want to!!!!) and an epic trip to Milford Sound (see picture). Milford sound was like stepping into a jurassic park movie, with cascading waterfalls, and stunning greenery, we even got to see dolphins, penguins and seals. Overall Brilliant trip! It was soon time to leave but Sam had a quick stop off at Kaikora where she went swimming with wild dusky dolphins. A truely amazing experience!
We were sad to leave New Zeland but before we knew it we were in the airport with our friends Matt and Jennie waiting for our delayed flight to Fiji. It was only when Jennie (who had just been randomly searched in customs for drugs coming back clear) asked us to look after her bag, when a sniffer dog came over to sam and the bag and began to sniff! Sam with a paniked face looked at me just as the dog thankfully went away! Phew!!!! But Jennie and Matt found this hilarious when they came back to us.
Our next destination was fiji. And in Fiji everything runs on "Fiji time". Which basically means 'When-i-bloody-well-feel-like-it'. This is not ideal when your on a island 3 hours away from the mainland trying to get back with a flight booked!
Its fair to say the accommodation was very basic. And I woke up to a cockroach sharing my bed. It then crawled up the wall and sat in the roof looking at me!!!! All night!!! So needless to say i swaped beds. A slightly wearing Sam and Sian head to the beach for the day, as it had become nice and cloudy, sam took a nap in a hammock (hard life :)) she was awoken with a shock (Me watching this laughing) when the sun made an appearance and was so hot that it actually woke her up! She then ran gasping and jumped in the pool as if she had been set on fire! It was priceless!
The week in fiji went very fast lazing around on the beautiful islands, snorkelling and eating heaps of amazing food. But we were excited to get to Australia!
