Arrived in Perth, greeted by Lisa at the airport. She took us back to their house in Darlington, which is just outside Perth near the Bush. They live in a beautiful house with a veranda going all the way round it, and a pool in the garden. They have a dog called Rufus, who is half dog, half sheep. After a quick sleep in the afternoon we went for a Bushwalk with Alice and Felix, who are two very clever, talented and friendly kids. That night we were introduced to some friends of the family at a fantastic dinner party - the conversation was high-brow intellectual stuff, varying from Theological History to theatre productions! Lisa and David have some very famous friends, including Reiss who is an Aussie actor, originally a New Zealander, who spent several years in the UK too.
We did a camping trip to the Margaret River, where we camped in a very beautiful National Park. We managed to squeeze in a fair few wine tasting sessions (Abberley, Howling Wolf), as well as cheese and chocolate factories. Lisa taught us how to cook a whole chicken in a frying pan (Chick-a-brick?) and we generally ate quite well there! Despite putting on several stone, we braved it to the beach. We went to Yallingup and Redgate, where we walked, snorkled, body-boarded and did a bit of sand-dune surfing! All in all, great fun. It was good to get back to Lisa and David's to have a hot shower, although when we got back to their's it was over 40 degrees, so we were swimming in their pool until about 10.30 at night to cool down. We spend our last day in Freemantle (Freeo) where we visited an Indigenous (Aborigine) art gallery and tralwed the second hand book shops (in between sipping coffee on the famous Cappuccino strip). Having spent eight days with David, Lisa, Alice and Felix we were sad to leave their good company and generous hospitality. We are very excited about New Zealand and the 2 months in the campervan. We have changed our plans so we are not going to Fiji anymore (coup causing some problems there).
