Well, today was certainly interesting!!
Hung out in Maroochydore town centre today, watching lots of stick thin teenagers doing exactly the same thing but sans luggage! I trundled off the bus trying to find a luggage locker only to be told that they don't have them there but there might be some in the shopping mall or the information desk might be able to store my luggage for me. So, off I trundled to the shopping mall and couldn't find them. Trundled to the information desk and they said that there were lockers on the other side of the mall (gah!!) but they weren't sure whether my case would fit or not as they were quite skinny lockers.
Off I trundled to the lockers. Yes, they were skinny, but I thought I might be able to squash my case into it.
Begrudgingly fed the machine my $6, and guess what, the door didn't open. Bum.
Phoned one of the numbers on the lockers that they said to phone if you needed help. No answer. Phoned the other number, and luckily someone answered and so a nice lad came to help me.
He did whatever it was with the lockers, and the door opened. My case didn't fit, despite us trying to squash it in. Double bum.
I asked him for a refund and he said he wasn't able to do anything about it. If I went to the information desk, then they might be able to give me a refund. Groan.
Back to the information desk, and one nice lady tried to help me. Then another dragon lady came along and basically said that they can't give out refunds, I should have known my case wouldn't have fitted in the locker as it's far too fat for the lockers, and then just walked off. Thanks!! Nice customer service or what!!
However, the other nicer lady did give me another number to call (must remember to keep 50 cent pieces in my bag at all times for the bleeding phone!!) but there was no answer, so I just gave up and just had to swallow the loss of my $6. Thieving $*&@#?!^!!!
I consoled myself with some nice churros (though not as nice as the ones in Auckland, and nowhere near as nice as the ones at the Innocent Festival last year) and thanked my lucky stars that I wasn't so poor that it meant that I wouldn't be able to eat for the next two days because of losing $6!! I just should have trundled my luggage about with me in the first place!!
Caught an earlier bus to Nambour so I could get my ticket for the train, and this busker guy got chatting to me on the bus. He seemed a bit strange at first, but then seemed quite harmless, so we chatted for most of the journey. He said he was meant to be getting another bus at Nambour but I think our bus was late leaving or something as he missed it! The next bus wasn't for another hour and so we ended up chatting at the train station too. Some kids were hassling him a bit to do some tricks (he'd been a pirate in the town centre earlier in the day) so he did a few tricks, and then they started asking him for money!! Isn't that meant to work the other way around? Honestly, the youth of today....etc. etc.
Fortunately, he got a lift with another friend of his that got off a train from wherever she'd been. I had wondered if he was just a bit nuts, but gave a little sigh of relief when she came along and said she knew him and would give him a lift!
Luckily, my train journey to Hervey Bay went without a hitch. There was also no creepy guy perving at me at the station!! I do love travelling by train! So much easier than a bus!! Proper stops so you know where you are, instead of bus drivers just stopping in the middle of nowhere half the time!!
Got my coach connection to Urangan without a hitch too, and a nice lady sat next to me and told me a bit about Maryborough and Hervey Bay, which was very nice of her. A Swiss lady was sitting just across from us as well, and it turned out that she hadn't booked any accommodation and so was asking her if she knew of anywhere to stay. She'd booked her train journey at the last minute and so hadn't arranged a place to stay as she'd been travelling all day. Ooops. Luckily I was already going to the YHA, otherwise I don't know where she'd have ended up staying.
Luckily, the YHA did have spare beds, so she was sorted. The bus driver did say that if there wasn't any room for her, then he'd actually make sure he found somewhere with her, which was really nice of him. He even said that he'd drive the bus back to the YHA (he had another passenger to drop off after us) and wait for a little bit, just in case. Aww, bless.
Got into my room and there were two girls in there who were spark out. The room was pretty big too, and it was obviously a kind of chalet or something as it actually had two rooms, a kitchen sink type area, and it's own bathroom! Yay! No sharing a bathroom with 20 other people!! I plonked myself in the other room so I could faff about without waking up my two room mates. It was almost like my own room as no one else was going to be checking into it and I even had a big cupboard by my bed so I could shove all my stuff in it!! Cool! A cupboard is now a luxury to me - sad but true!! Can't wait to get home to my own bedroom!!!!!!!!
Looking forward to a lie in tomorrow and then sorting out my Fraser Island trip!
