After a mess around with the Azerbaijan embassy we did get our visas. We spent our last few days in and around Tbilisi with Greg and Maria looking around the markets, enjoying dinner and wine and Georgian traditional dancing and singing. We all went on a bit of a random adventure looking for a fishing spot and got caught up in a rally! That was just after Fintan had been attacked by wasps. His leg swelled up and I was a bit worried... but sitting around in the air conditioned room did him wonders!
We finally left Hotel Leadora and spent the next three nights camping by rivers on the road from Davit Gareja to Lagodekhi. It was lovely. And on the road to Tusheti we were pulled over... by an Irishman! He had overtaken us and noticed the number plate, so pulled us over and treated us to lunch! Delicious! We had a very interesting conversation and it was really a wonderful surprise/treat!
On Saturday we crossed into Azerbaijan at the Lagodekhi border. We had anticipated this to be a tricky crossing, but it went really well and turned out to be the fastest border crossing so far! At one point Fintan had 6 customs officials helping get his papers sorted! We were through by 12:30pm... until we realised the time zone change! So actually 1:30pm, but not to worry we weren't going far! Only 60kms, should be there in an hour!
Well, maybe if we hadn't gone on the back roads! We got into Saki at 6pm!

mum Love the "good luck" on the sign! Pulled over by an Irishman, great. Adventures and more adventures. Glad the ferry went well.
