Saturday the 14th of Nov:
Woke up at 7:30 had toast and butter for breakfast since it was free meal at the hostel. Went for a walk at the beach and stayed there for 1 1/2 hour, had to leave cause I couldn't stand being in the sun and went back to the hostel where I met Julie from the UK and Keira from The Netherlands. I had lunch with Julie at a local stall, visited the duty free shopping mall and bought some beers and had a few drinks with Keira and Julie. Later that afternoon Vanessa from Canada arrived at the hostel (the girl I met at Koh Lanta) and we bought some more ciders/beers (apparently called 'beer run' in the UK?).
It was getting late and we all decided to go out for dinner (Vanessa Canada, Keria The Netherlands, Julie UK and myself).
Vanessa had a Prawn tempura salat, I had a Chicken Tempura salat, Keira and Julie had some spicy noodle seafood soup. And Julie kept making Keira laugh and every time she did Keira would cough up some of the soup and then it really burned her throat. I think we arrived back at the hostel at 9:30pm.
Sunday the 15th of Nov:
I Woke up at around 6am and had a shower and some breakfast.
Had a chat with Fatima who takes care of the hostel and ordered a motorbike to go touring with Julie and Vanessa. Vanessa and I shared a motorbike, I was driving.
Did the cable car, skydome, Sky bridge and 3D museum which was all located in the area of the Oriental Village a 30-50 min drive from the hostel.
When we came out of the museum it started pouring rain and we sad down at a small local restaurant and had tea and Ice coffee waiting for the rain to wear off. It did wear off a bit but then it started to rain again as soon as we climbed onto the motorbikes;-)
Returned at the hostel at around 4:30pm. We were all pretty tired from walking around, climbing stairs and most of all the humidity.
Monday the 16th of Nov:
Today was spent lounging on the beach together with Vanessa.
Just swimming in the sea, sunbathing, reading books and a bit later having a light lunch consisting of musli w yoghurt and fruits + croissant. In the evening we went to a Chinese seafood restaurant and had the best seafood dinner with butter prawns and vegetables + dim sum, yum!
Tuesday the 17th of Nov:
Had a lasy day in bed at the hostel
Wednesday the 18th of Nov:
Another lazy day at the hostel. Some times you just need a day doing nothing! Checked out of the hostel in Cenang Beach at around 3pm and into the Langkawi Uptown hotel in Kuah with Vanessa in a twin room (budget hotel in Kuah nearby the Jetty area). We had dinner at a place called 'MarryBrown' (a wannabe KFC chicken restaurant) and it was the worst dinner I have had in a long time ;) The chicken burger was none existing, the soda tasted like chlorine and the fries were cold... Haha but what did we really expect ;) after that fine dining experience we went to catch a movie in the Cineplex which was located on the 10th floor of the shopping mall. We both really wanted to see the new James Bond movie, and so we did. Only 8 RM for a ticket... Wow.
Thursday the 19th of Nov:
Once again Spent the day with Vanessa in Kuah.
We had breakfast at a small local Chinese restaurant and had the best coffee ever with condensed milk, walked around Kuah; the parks, eagle square, the Jetty shopping area and the Jetty/harbour sides. We really wanted to watch another movie and saw that the 'Hunger Games part 2' was showing at the Cineplex. We had dinner at different restaurant at the Mall a much better experience 2nd time around, saw the Hunger Games and walked back to our hotel.
Friday the 20th of Nov:
I was leaving for the Island Penang this day, south of Langkawi, so I woke up at 7ish but stayed in bed until 9:00am. Had a shower, had lunch with Vanessa at 11:45am.
Paid the hotel owner to drive me to Jetty area to board the ferry for Penang (bought the ferry ticket from Langkawi to Penang online the day before and was luckily able to print the ticket at the hotel).
I bought some food supplies for the 3 hour ferry trip and had a look around the area before checking in at the ferry counter. Everyone boarding the ferry was given a certain seat number and this time around I was not able to pick my own seat. I was placed in a 4 row seating area with a 25 year old guy from Penang to my left and a muslim couple on my righthand side.
Penang -
The Malaysian guy, later discovered that his name was Vermeed, gave me a bag of chocolates because I offered to share some M&M peanuts with him. Very sweet of him. We talked about places to visit in Penang and I told him were I was going to stay and what I expected to see on the Island. When we disembarked at Penang harbour there was a lot of taxi drivers waiting to ask if people needed to taxi to their hotel. And because I didn't exactly know where I was going and wanted to opt in for a taxi to my hotel/B&B I told one of the taxi drivers yes please. But Vermeed thought it was too much money and offered to go get his car and drive me to my B&B. I told him that is was a very kind gesture and that it was okay for me to take a taxi, he insisted in driving me though and finally I accepted his offer. He told me that a friend would come pick him up on a motorbike and then he would drive to his apartment and get his car. So.... there I was... waiting at a deserted parking area by the Jetty waiting for him to get his car and come back to drive me to my B&B. I was waiting for 30 min and thought to myself that it might not have been the wisest decision to accept his offer and then I saw his car pulling up to the sidewalk. In all fairness it was rush hour at the Jetty area.
In the car was the friend that had picked him up on the motorbike and they kindly loaded my luggage into the car. The friend sad on the passenger seat and I sad in the back of the car. The friend must have told me a million times that I should have picked another hotel, a hotel closer to the town area. Each time we passed yet another hotel that was not my B&B he pointed his finger, shouting 'hotel hotel'. Not in an angry way but just to kinda let me know apparently how foolish he though I was to book a hotel 9km out of the town centre ;-) At the end we found the B&B and Vermeed told me that I could just add him on Whats app and let him know if I needed any help. Yet another kind gesture after having driven me to my accommodation. Michelle (one of the owners of the B&B) greeted me in the driveway.
