Contrary to the belief Narbonne was nowhere near the serene atmosphere that the picture represents. However serene was indeed a word that can be associated with this small, pointless Ghost Town, that became part of our 30hour journey into Florence.
30hours, Yes...now it actually doesn't seem that long, but now I think I'm capable of handling anything. We stayed in the train station as long as we could, until through some misfortune, and crazy, German looking french woman was just pacing around the station, staring at Michael. Well he does seem to attract the attention. Wink Wink.
So it began. The 8 hour stopover before we would head off to Marseilles, and in all honesty it really could have been a lot worse. At times my mind wondered to the interesting Irish woman; Victoria, that we met on the journey to Cerbere, the border town of France and Spain. She had some BAD luck. Bought a night train ticket to go to Switzerland and had to go to collect it in France! The train was due to leave from Barcelona! Oh well....It was interesting. She clearly was smarter than both our Bons brains put together, but did not openly shove it in our face. Although she had this desire to be different. Each to their own.
Back to Narbonne. =I
So we ended up walking around the town, in the wee hours of the morning. It was hard. Carrying 16 Kilograms on our backs, did not appeal to our sense of adventure and although there was a pretty awesome church in the middle of the town, one wonders. Why on earth would you ever go to this town? It has NOTHING going for it! Fair enough we were there at 7pm - 4 am but still. WOW.
All in all, we ended up in a park, and took turns sleeping. It was dire...the urge to not fall asleep was flawed in sooo many ways. Michael with his Drum and Bass was falling asleep walking, I tried to brave the cold...
One word of advice.
Stay away from Narbonne.
4 words really.
