4th - 6th september - Agnes Waters and Town of 1770
Our next stop was to a lovely little town called 1770 and Agnes Waters. We had heard alot about this place from others so we wer keen to see what it had to offer.
We got shown around Agnes Waters and 1770 on a free orientation tour by a South African man that owns and runs the Scooteroos tour. We had heard lots of good things about that tour too so that was on our to do list.
The Town of 1770 was so named as this is where Captain Cook first landed in Ozon 24th May 1770. The town is beautiful, with no crime, 1 pub, 80 houses and only 110 people living there. Everyone is really friendly and stop to give you a left if needed.
After the free orientation tour we visited the local pub and ended up placing a few bets on the horses and a version of the lottery which is drawn every 3 minutes. We ended up winning 12 pounds on the lottery with just 2 numbers - our birthdays! We would've won a further 40 quid on a horse called asian tales that we both wanted to bet on for obvivious reasons but at the time couldn't figure how to fill in the betting slip and then next thing it came in 1st!
The following day was a complete washout as it had started raining in the night and didn't dtop for over 24hours which was a pain as there isnt anything to do if the weather is bad. The Scooteroo tour was cancelled as was the cheap surf lessons down the coast for 7 pounds for 2 hours. So the day was spent playing cards with our roomates Maya and Sarah. We also met up with Agnes and Steve who we had met on the boat on the Whitsundays.
Simon managed to get a surf lesson in the next day and throughly enjoyed, he even managed to stand up twice and was pretty impressed with himself. From there we did the Scooteroo tour.
The Scooteroo tour is where you get to ride a chopper or scooter which can get upto 70km p/hr with about 40 other people all round 1770 and agnes waters. So you all follow the man who owns the company (can't remember his name!) and then he takes you all around Agnes waters and 1770 seeing all the scenic views, heaps of kangaroos and wallabies. The tour is finished off at a pub where you get a beer then walk down to the rocks and watch the sunset. The only problem was, it rained most of our tour again so there wasn't a sunset for us!
I didn't want o ride my own Chopper so was going to double up with Si but we were told the bike wouldn't get up the hills with us both on it (they put it very diplomatically!) so I went on the back of the owners bike and ended up having the best seat in the house as he went 170km p/hr and i got to see all the kangaroos and wildlife before they disappeared as everyone else caught up.
Despite the weather it was a great tour and we even got to see the exact place where Captain Cook is said to have set foot in oz.
Thats all i can amange today eberyone going to put sunnys back on, get a coffe and then find a shady spot to lay my hungover head!
love to you all promise to try and find somewhere to upload some photos soon xxxx
