Day 2
(Jamie)
We were up dead early this morning as we needed to get our Vietnam visa's and book our overnight train to Chiang Mai. We decided to brave the tuk tuk taxis to get into the centre of Bangkok, I think the reason they call it a tuk tuk is because you shout something that sounds alot like 'TUK!' whilst they weave through the many lanes of traffic . On the recommendations of the tuk tuk driver we headed for the Lucky Buddha (I thought that after recent league results it couldn't hurt!) and the Reclining Buddha. Both were pretty impressive especially the reclining one which was guarded by a Mr Miyagi look-a-like.
After a short trip to the national museum (which was pretty boring) we decided to head back to the hotel as we were both still quite jet lagged. After a quick nap we headed back out for something to eat, street food is everywhere, however deciphering what each vendor is selling is very difficult as we are outside the main tourist area and all the signs (if there are signs at all) are in Thai.
First impressions of Bangkok is how strange a city it is, with some parts ultra modern and others that are straight out the stone age. Although the Thai people have been very helpful, from guiding us on the right price to pay for a tuk tuk to helping us order food.
