So here we are, home at last.
We left Tallahassee at 7:50 with 79 degrees under clear skies and drove to the State Capitol Complex, which is in the middle of the city. We arrived during rush hour traffic, so it was not possible to get out of the car and wander around. I snapped a couple of photos through the car window (something I have done a lot of on this trip). Basically there are two capitol buildings, the "Old State Capitol" and the current one. The old capitol building has a very traditional look to it, with columns and a dome. Right behind it is the new building, which is a tall tower, similar to a few others that we have seen. The two are on the same piece of land, back to back and in my photo of the old one, you can see the new tower behind it. This complex is land-locked, so there is no real campus to speak of. It is surrounded by supporting office buildings in a very tight space.
We then drove back to I-10 and headed east. We arrived in Poinciana at about 1 PM and began the arduous task of unpacking the car, taking care of a long list of tasks that had gone undone for the last month and resupplying the frig and pantry with the usual staples. And of course, there is the laundry which had gone ignored for the last two weeks.
I must add that Beamer was thrilled to be home. When he entered the house, it was all that I could do to hold him down long enough to remove his leash and harness. He was dancing around with excitement to be home at last. Can't blame him…it is always good to be home after a long journey. And later, when it was time to wash off all of those hotel carpets, he willingly followed me to the bathroom and actually jumped into the tub, something he has never done before. He is now marching around the house fluffy white and smelling wonderful.
We had a wonderful trip. As planned, I saw the Canadian Rockies from the ground, and most of Glacier NP in the US as well as in Canada. And yes, Steve and I are still friends. Having achieved Elite Status with La Quinta, we enjoyed many upgraded rooms, some with kitchens, some with separate living rooms. And every time we checked in they gave us a complimentary treat to enjoy.
- We drove over 10,000 miles through 30 states, and spent a lot of time visiting 16 of them.
I don’t know for sure where our travels will take us next, but I am sure we will be on the road again, soon. My thanks to all who have followed us on this blog. I have enjoyed writing it and it will soon be in another book on my coffee table.
Til next time…
