Well 13 hours didn't seem so bad after all. The plane had spare seats so we were all able to stretch out a bit. Arrived in Singapore in a torrential downpour. The airport was a very calm place and our bags were through in no time so we got straight through customs. On the other side there was a guy with a placard saying Peter Ann Catherine Sharp welcome to Singapore. He took our bags and we were driven to the hotel in an air conditioned minivan. He gave us a commentary en route pointing out all places of interest.
Singapore is an amazing place with the most fabulous collection of modern buildings. After a rest we walked to a nearby area called Clarkes Quay which was full of bars and restaurants alongside the river. We ate a small meal and had a beer then wandered around the area.
There is so much you can compare with home. They drive on the left, have double decker buses, the electric plugs are the same and the majority speak English.
