Hi everyone,
We just got back from our weekend to Cochin yesterday. I had a great time. We travelled there on an overnight bus on Thursday night. I think I actually got a bit of sleep for once! After crashing at a cheap hotel in the early hours of the morning we caught the ferry over to Cochin's little island. Krissy saw a dolphin on the journey. I was too fascinated with the boats and the water to notice! We found a nice little hotel with a stately home feel to it. However, I later wished it was cooler with maybe slightly bigger rooms and a better fan because I really struggled with the heat. It was probably the hottest I've experienced so far and my ezcema was really nasty. This got topped on Saturday by an allergic reaction to nuts giving me an ugly puffy eye for a couple of days! Things worked out well though because the lovely group of IGs I went with knew me pretty well and even though I shed tears with them I really felt the support of the goup. We had a little Bible study and went round sharing what God had been doing in our lives and I was able to share that when my allergies play up I just feel vulnerable, but they prayed for me and encouraged me and it really felt like God was there with us. I had also been saying a bit about how I find it harder to stay closer to God in the good times than in the bad, and it was great to be brought to rely on him again and he really refreshed me. So aside from all that..we went on an amazing backwater tour on a gorgeous little boat weaving in and out of some of the Kerela villages. This was very relaxing for all of us and we took some good pictures! I also bought a couple more presents and treats, which'll probably be the last of what I'm bringing back from India with me and it was nice to get a couple of special things and make friends with some more shop people! Again, I had great fun bartering. One particular item I mangaed to get to half the price! There were some really good restaurants there and my particular favourite was roast chicken and chips -something I haven't had in a very long time! There was also delicious chocloate cake! On our last night, Beth and I sat on the sea front looking at the water, the boats and the many Indian tourists with their loved ones, which was really good. Later we had fun playing chinese whispers through drama and had a lot of laughs. We ended the night trying to learn the Swiss national anthem, but only just got past the first line -German is very hard! The song is very poetical though and produced many more laughs! On Monday we were greeted with the monsoon! It hits Kerela first and then will work it's way up to places like Ooty, so I got absolutely soaked coming home, but it was fun to feel we were chasing the monsoon and getting ourselves out of it for another week or two! 3 weeks till home! Love to you all, Sam xxxxxxxxxx
