Well I have finally made it out of Groningen and into the big city of Amsterdam! On Saturday morning, a group of 13 of us headed for the train station like a herd of sheep. We were obvious first time travelers as half the group missed the stop where we had to transfer trains. Our lack of experience shined through all day long. After half of us arrived in Amsterdam, we thought it would be a good idea to lock up our backpacks for the day. After a little time went by, the group who took a round about train ride caught up to us. They asked if we had a ticket for our locker. With blank and confused faces, three of us headed back to the station and with a big smile, we asked for some help. Luckily, none of our belongings were stolen and we continued on with our day. Amsterdam is beautiful with huge canals and eye catching architecture. It is also very crowded and big. I missed out on taking too many pictures because I always had a map in my hand like a true tourist. We had a wonderful day just walking around and taking it all in. It is very similar to the city I am living in, just ten times bigger and filled with more people. We also went to the Van Gogh Museum which was really neat! It brought back memories of art class from elementary school. After a yummy dinner we headed back to the station for the journey home. We thought we had mastered the train until we realized that our loud, obnoxious, laughing group of 8 (once again we didn't all make it on the train) was sitting in the silent car. Needless to say, we moved rather quickly. Now that I have made it out of Groningen, I can feel symptoms of the travel bug coming on. I am realizing how lucky I am right now when all thats on my mind is should I take a plane or a train, perhaps Paris or Spain...
