Our time in China is at it's end. Kristofer has flown to the Philippines and I am going back to Sweden tomorrow. Eight weeks has gone by since we came here and I believe it has been eight very interesting weeks. We have experienced so much and we have learned many things.
Collecting information hasn't been as easy as we thought it would be, but we believe we have managed to find what we came here for. We have had several interviews and we have collected opinions through our questionnaire. We have also collected a lot of printed material.
The most difficult obstacle during these weeks has been the language barrier. We have been almost completely dependent on our Chinese friends during interviews and in contacting people of interest to our study. Also the cultural barrier has been a problem when meeting Chinese people. If we would do the same study again we would probably be able to plan it better and to faster find the right people to talk to.
Before coming to China we had a lot of preconceived notions about what to expect. I believe we leave China with many of these notions revised and the learning that there is more to a country than what you read in the newspaper.
It is both sad and relieving to leave China. Sad because there is still so much to learn and to see here, and relieving because there is many things in Sweden that we miss. (Personally I miss my Aeropress coffee-maker. In China, as long as it LOOKS like coffee, it IS coffee...) But I have a strong feeling that we will return here someday. Maybe to build green roofs?
I wish Kristofer a nice well-deserved vacation in the Philippines and I look forward to seeing you all back in Sweden (especially you, dear Aeropress coffee-maker...).
China out.
