Feliz Navidad!
As mentioned we spent our Xmas Day in San Cristobal. Pretty low key actually and didn't really feel like Xmas even though there were lots of Xmas decorations and the like around the town. To make it even more foreign we went along to the Bull Fight on Xmas afternoon. Whilst interesting to witness the tradition and the manner in which the matadors are respected by the crowd it wasn't particularly easy to watch. Just doesn't seem like much of a contest and the eventual demise of each bull seems all but guaranteed. So after watching the first two 'contests' between man and beast we had to leave rather than watch the next two bulls go through the same treament!
On Boxing day we caught a bus to Palenque, home to one of the better Mayan Ruin sites. A very windey road made for quite an entertaining ride, the sounds of people vomiting and the associated distress. Sarah and I imagined the look on somebodys face if they had watched the people on our bus make their exit upon our arrival in Palenque - all white and pasty and covered in vomit, looking like they have just come off a roller coaster ride!
We had a good day exploring the ruins and soaking up some sunshine and tomorrow we depart for Guatemala again for one last ruins excursion!
More soon.
