Well guys! What a weekend! I am stuffed, bloated and so sick of potato, Im not going to eat potato for a very long time now! Why you ask?? I have just farewelled all my friends after a brilliant weekend to celebrate American and Canadian Thanksgiving. It was my first thanksgiving but since I have the largest apartment out of anyone, mine was the one to host.. The weekend started on Saturday night when I went to pick Jody and Krysta up from the Train Station after they had travelled in from Takasaki after work. It is a long journey and they were tired so we headed straight back to my place - to set up the futons then invitied Liz over to watch an Australian Classic Movie - Crackerjack!!! I had just gotten all the DVDs sent over from home and it took us a while to choose a movie, but the aussie spirit came through. Krysta and Liz seemed to enjoy the movie, although with a lot of Australian slang, it wouldve been hard to follow at times, but all good. Liz wandered home around 1am and the rest of us crashed on our make up beds and it felt like one big slumber party!!!
Sunday was the day. Had an early rise when Jackie met us and we went on a walking tour of Tsuchiura because Jody hadnt seen the lake and Krysta hadnt seen from this angle. The sunshine was beautiful today and we were blessed with perfect weather, so when we made it to the lake headland about an hour after leaving we sat and chilled, enjoyed the scenery and chatted until we realised we would have to get moving soon to go and buy the groceries for the Thanksgiving. Now when we initally planned Thanksgiving, it was supposed to take place with the people from my initial training group, but by the time November rolled around, we were down to 2 people from initial training and friends we had made along the way. Thank goodness we only had 5 people though because the amount of food we bought, then had torepare and store as leftovers was unlike anything I have seen before!!! And trying to cook a thanksgiving dinner without an oven - what an adventure. We had borrowed Lizs toaster oven and started up cooking stations in my apartment, shopping, peeling, cooking, toasting etc with the Christmas music on and the lights on my tree -- it all felt festive. 2 hours after starting to prepare the food, we sat down to devour the enormous amounts of food!!! It was delicious but I was full after 2 plates!! Jackie kept going and she wasnt feeling well afterwards. LOL!!!!
Then cleanup time and off to Karaoke. The best way to let food digest is to sit in a booth with 3 other peoople and sing your hearts out to the most random songs - It was an amazing couple of hours but it can prove expensive to go to Karaoke at night, so we said goodbye to Liz and headed home to head to bed quite early - we had a long day coming up on Monday.
Ueno Zoo was the destination and we were in Ueno after a very rushed morning of preparations and pancake breakfasts by 10am - Impressive!!! The Zoo only cost $6 to get in and was amazing! I wanted to see a panda, but unfortunately the panda had died last year and they yet to find a replacement so I had to make do with zebras, elephants, japanese monkeys, tigers, lions, polar bears and kangaroos - thats right - I came all the way to Japan to see kangaroos - youve got to be kidding lol! We spent a good 4 hours wandering around the zoo and enjoying watching the animals - our favourite were the monkeys - they had an onsen and everything and were enjoying each others company should I say... lol. But in true Tokyo fashion, when we were the furtherest away from the entrance, it started to rain. Now I should know by now to carry an umbrella any time I go to Tokyo but the lesson still hasnt sunk in and I was drenched by the time we got to Ueno Station on the trains home to our respective cities. I seemed to dry out on the way home, only to be hit with more rain upon arrival - I just cant seem to win! Note to self - never go to Tokyo without an umbrella in future - Ive been 6 times and everytime It has rained!!! Anyway - after a long eventful weekend, I was exhausted and went home to finish tidying up and rearrange the furniture back to the way I had it then head to bed. I was exhausted!!!
