I have survived my first week on the job!!! Monday morning, I arrived and was met by the teacher I was taking over - Marylin. I was thrown into the deep end and was informed that I would be teaching nearly a full week as Marylin was asked to do farewell lessons for her students - just a start to the money makers that our manager tries to do. Luckily, the staff are really nice and friidly and the children are awesome - on the majority.. A few of my classes have badly behaved kids and it will take a few weeks to control them.. But Ill be fine. I am teaching 26 classes a week at the moment but that will probably change. Marylin and Jackie have given me the truth about what the manager is really like and the fact that she is not a good manager… Time will tell - but the fact that I have not been trained properly will come back and haunt me Im sure…
Anyway, this morning I went to Tokyo to buy my laptop - It was my first trip into Tokyo on my own and trust the typhoon from the south to arrive in Tokyo just as I was needing to wander around Akihabara to buy electronics… I arrived at Akihabara (Akiba) station and my first sight of the neonlights was amazing - even in the rain - then I wandered into every shop in the main drag and the backstreets to compare prices and lucky me ended up in the same shop that I started off in, I ended up getting a Fujitsu second hand computer with all the programs I needed including office and wireless, now all I need is a cellphone and internet at home - I don't know how or how long that is going to take to get. I stayed around Akihabara for a while until the rain really got to me and it started to be chilly and then headed to Shibuya. I got to see the World Famous Shibuya Crossing - which was amazing - It took ages to get out of the station and then I hit the crossing - every 3 minutes, the lights change to green and thousands of people cross in insanity - add to that heavy rain and hundreds of umbrellas and it was crazy - I got to the other side and needed a coffee so I headed into the best located Starbucks in the world - overlooking the crossing and watched the world go by for a while, before heading the the Biggest Tower Records in the world. It has a foreign language book section and I was itching for some English - but not at the prices they were asking , I had already spent heaps on the laptop - but I will be back… I started wandering around the streets of Shibuya and the neon central, especially when the sun went down.. It was amazing - the nightlife centre and no -one over 30 wandering the streets, now I felt like I was in Japan - it was amazing and by far my favourite part of Japan so far..
I badly needed internet so I found an internet café that was 8 storeys tall, with karaoke rooms, internet café and DVD viewing rooms. Very comfortable room with reclining leather chair and huge flatscreen TV all for the bargain price for 150Y an hour.. Some people even stay the night in the internet café - you can book out a booth for 7-8 hours for 1200Y with unlimited soft drinks, internet, DVD rental and relaxation which is great and so much cheaper and convenient then the hostels - it is right in the middle of Shibuya! AWESOME! I will be back here that's for sure. After a very long day wandering around in the rain with a laptop, I decided to call it a night and head home on the last train - I love TOKYO!!!
