Sara's Travels
So as of yesterday I'm officially a Galapagos resident (at least according to customs). Landed last night in the surreal landscape of Isla San Cristobal. My last night in Quito I got pick-pocketed by a five year old and lost one of my favorite earings. It's good to be out of the Mariscal.
The town I'm living in has 6,000 people. I live with a small family in a pretty ghetto part of town. My moms name is Monica and she is 6 months pregnant. My dads name in Lenin and he is a naturalist guide. My sister, Rebecca, is 2 and makes a living being cute and teaching me Spanish. I also have a huskey named Oso (bear) who loves me. They all speak Spanish and none speak English. Except Oso, who doesn't seem to speak either. I sleep on a block of wood with a blanket over it. A bit uncomfortable for sleeping but great for yoga. A rooster woke me up 4 times this morning, and I have a really bad headache from trying to understand my family. But I guess that's the only way to learn, practice practice. I'm also teaching Rebecca some English. She knows chapstick, bubbles, and camera. I think she's picking up my language much quicker than I'm picking up hers. My school is very small and right across from a nice beach where sea lions try to eat you. This place is beautiful, though it definetely makes me miss Hawaii. Well day one is down and I guess that's all for now folks. I have my first class of my second module, environmental security, in 10 min so I better go. I'll post an album soon. Ciao bellas.-s
