Wow, it was a long day in Barcelona! I have to say, Barcelona overall is a nice city. The real WOW moments did not start until I reached the Parc de La Ciutedalla, which is like a park that holds the zoo, and more. I came upon the Cascada, which is a grand fountain, a couple of stories high, with what appeared to be gold adornments. It was a fantastic site, and offered great views. I then walked to the Arc de Triomf, which was very nice, but after seeing the real deal in Paris, it was very underwhelming. From there, I was disappointed at the next two landmarks, the Placa de Toros Monumental, and the Temple de La Sagrada Familia. The former used to be a bull fighting stadium; actually, I am not sure if it still is or not, but am guessing it is not, as it is a memorial; it was not even open… oh well. The latter is a grand structure with fantastic architecture, but it is far from finished. I think I read an article on it in National Geographic a couple of years back; if I remember correctly, it has been over a hundred years since it was started, and it will take another hundred years to finish.
Then, it was off to Placa Espanya, which is a grand circle of Barcelona, and may be considered to be the unofficial city center. It had nice monuments, of which I took plenty of pictures. From there, I went up into the hills, and boy was every step uphill worth it. I must have spent 3-4 hours alone climbing uphill in a green garden/hill region of which I do not know the name. In it, I found the Olympic Park, spectacular views, and a defensive Castle, that looked like it was probably built in the 14-1500s. Now that offered some wow moments. It has been just over two weeks now, and I've already visited two Olympic Stadiums. Not bad.
