Well I have finally had time to start blogging. I know a few people know my story but a lot do not know how I came upon the job in the Cayman Islands so here it is.
I had been working for over 3 years at what I thought was my "perfect job." I was happy in my career doing what I worked hard for. On January 16, 2014 I was completely blindsided and told that I was losing my job. I have never felt so hurt, betrayed and at a total loss for words. I have always been a hard worker and have never once been in trouble including this job so this was a major shock to me. As I walked out of the hospital for that last time, I pretty much figured my life was over. Over the last 7 months, I went from extremely angry to very depressed. I beat myself so bad that I was so close to just giving up on everything.
I started applying for jobs and getting interviews but could not get an xray position here in the state which really discouraged me. X-ray jobs are very scarce these days and then nobody wanted to pay a seasoned tech what they are worth. I decided since I am single and have no kids to start looking out of the state. I figured why not, I could start over somewhere new and warm. While I was looking for jobs in Florida I came across an ad for a 3 month contract job in the Cayman Islands. I decided to submit my resume and figured "heck they won't call me anyways." No more than an hour went by and I received a phone call from the contracting company. He said he was interested and decided to pass my resume along to the hospital. I received another phone call from him the next day saying they are extremely interested and wanted to do a skype interview with me. I was so surprised and excited. Who wouldn't want to work for 3 months in paradise and be compensated greatly for it?? I had my skype interview and not even a week later I found out the job was mine!! Oh my goodness I'm going to work in paradise for 3 months....I cannot believe it!! Of course I accepted the job and then it was time for negotiating. A few days later I receive a call saying the hospital is cutting the contract down to only 2 months now. I'm still game to go, why not? The next day I receive a call saying the hospital wants me full time permanently to be their CT tech. WHAT?!? I was in complete shock. At first I wasn't sure what to do but after talking to family and friends I figured I had to go try it out. I was going on 6 months of not working and getting a position here in Indy was close to impossible. With that, I gladly accepted the position which has brought me to where I am today.
I honestly don't know where I would be without my family and some special friends that were really there for me during the worst time of my life. I wanted to give up so badly but they kept pushing me and let me know that I wasn't done yet. During this time I decided to get back in church which was the best decision I could have ever made. God has helped me through some difficult times and I know he will never let me down.
I hope you enjoy reading my blogs and following me on this new adventure and second chance I am giving myself. I am excited but even more nervous to be taking this huge step.
