Selina´s Travels
aarrrggghhh!!
i did the skydive and i'm still alive!!
Well arrived in Taupo and booked our skydive for saturday at 1 o'clock. after not sleeping all night (even after a couple of glasses of wine!) woke up to saturday to so much cloud in the sky that i didn't think we were gonna jump. Well 1 o'clock came and as predicted, we couldn't jump. then we just kept rebooking all day until at at quarter to three, they called us and said they were picking us up in 10 mins!!!!
we got to the airfield and as you can imagine, i was so scared, i really didn't think i could do it. we watched a dvd (which just made it worse) and then got assigned our instructor - Sonke. He found it hilarious that i was so nervous and decided to play jokes with my harness all the way up in the plane :(
after about five mins in the plane and very high...i asked 'so are we nearly there now' only to get a reply of...'we are just at 3000ft...i nearly cried at the fact that we were going to jump from 4 times as high!
i started to relax though and as we spent 15 mins trying to find a clearing in the cloud to jump through, the door finally opened....
i was third and by this time i was so excited that i just wanted to jump. we 'flew' out of the plane and had to freefall for 45 seconds at 220km an hour for 7000 feet! it was so amazing although i couldn't breathe for most of it!! when the parachute opened at 5000 feet, i could finally relax and the see that the view over lake taupo was amazing!! we 'glided' around doing spins and stuff for around 4 mins and then landed, which to my surprise was really smooth!!
all in all, barring machu picchu, it was the best thing that i have done so far. considering i was so scared, i am really glad that i did it and now would even do another one if they weren't so expensive! we got the whole package which included a dvd and photos so can't wait to show everyone when i get back...you will be in stitches...they are hilarious!!
