Seb's Big Adventure
It is my fourth full day in Aksur. After a morning hike to see the setup of the work here, it has been relatively uneventful. I have, however, mastered the art of taking a shower in the ice cold stream. It's a painful experience and I wouldn't recommend you try unless you find you have to.
The nights are getting colder and regularly dropping below freezing, as autumn gradually turns to winter. As strange as that sounds in mid September, it's what's slowly but surely happening. Hence, the mornings are slow and not very appealing, and it isn't until around 10 am that the sun is positioned so that it shines into the narrow gorge-like valley that I can do my Superman impression and absorb energy and warmth from it.
I have also learnt in my time here that meals up here comprise soup, soup, and if you're really lucky, broth. Occassionally a soggy biscuit makes its way onto the table. Unless of course you're one of the born-and-bred local mountain folk, in which case eating poisonous snakes is more appetising. Apparantly very good for your back and stomach though, note to self.
