So - somehow Kirbs and I managed to find each other at the airport and we were off to a good start... there was a bit of a scare though when we didn't know if Kirbs' bag was going to arrive...I've been VERY lucky with 3 of my 4 flights so far giving me 2-3 seats to myself so there has been LOTS of stretching out!
We got out of the airport and were deciding whether to get the bus (and how to do that) when a lovely local man came and told us about his minibus... the rate didn't sound that bad (at 15,000) so we agreed and jumped in the back... we literally made it about 5 m down the road before they were flagged down by the police and then were held up for about 15mins... as time dragged on Kirbs and I decided to get out and catch the local bus... a really steep 1,400 each! Hahaha. Nice - the police man seemed to think it was the best idea too as he gave Kirbs a big grin when we got out...
Needless to say we had very little idea where we were going when we got into Santiago and headed in the wrong direction a few times before making it to the hostel. I'm going to be SUPER strong if we carry on like this. :)
Yesterday held a few cocktails, and some really dodgy food - although Spain v Chile was on the TV Kirbs and I could only make our eyes stay open til half time til we fell asleep... lol
Today we did the 'tour' of Santiago, making it to Funicular (the lookout), down town and into a few markets. Kirbs is getting lots of attention with the blonde hair and I just kept being spoken to in Spanish like I'm a local and should understand...'No entiendo' has become our favourite phrase! lol
Ordering lunch today was interesting as we put together pidgeon English and Spanish to figure out what we had ordered! So far everyone has been really helpful, and the girls in our hostel room are lovely. We learned a new word (postre) which is dessert after we tried to turn it away without realising we´d ordered a set menu for lunch... all was clear when the jelly came out though!! lol
We've booked the bus for tomorrow (7 hours to Mendoza) and have a room to settle in as well so we're off to a good start! :) We've only been almost run over a few times, and despite the HUNDREDS of dogs here, we're yet to be bitten! Hahaha
Miss you all - hope you're all safe
