We took the bus to Pai on Monday morning which was another windy road through beautiful mountains but only for 3 hours this time. Pai is quite a sleepy and very laid back place although it does threaten to liven up later in the evening. There is a good music scene here, great food, lots of choices of where to eat it and the inevitable walking street or night market. Vegetarian options have been a treat for me and I've had my first taste of hummus for over two months!
The scenery in the area is lovely with mountains all around, so we hired a bike today to get out to see a bit more of it. As well as visiting a Wat or two and some villages we went to the local thermal hot springs. You could bath in the mineral pools and it was all blissfully unspoilt with us having most of the place to ourselves for a while.
On the way back to town we passed a couple of elephant camps where you could ride the elephants. Although they didn't look bad it made us realise how well looked after the elephants at the elephant village we went to in Laos were.
Although it would be quite easy to stay and chill out in Pai for a bit longer we are heading back to Chiang Mai tomorrow morning. I am hoping to do a Thai foot massage course there and then we will head a bit further South to Sukhothai which is one of the ancient capitals of Thailand.
