We got to Koh Tao last Sunday and have actually been in the same place for a whole week now! For the last 11 weeks we have spent a maximum of only 3 nights in one place and often only one or two nights. I've actually just about unpacked my back pack for the first time.
The island is lovely with white sand and clear waters. There has been plenty of sunshine but there has been the occasional tropical down pour as well. We have a really sweet little bungalow right on the beach and have met some lovely people to hang out with. We have spent five days out of the last week diving which has been great. The sites have been quite high life and quite different to Vietnam but the highlight has to have been the dive when we saw about 6 bull sharks one morning. We are now spending a couple more days relaxing here before moving on to join a liveaboard on the west coast which is where the diving is meant to be.
Our last few days on Koh Tao were lovely and I think we needed the time to relax after so much travelling (shame I know!!). We did a couple of trips to visit the other bays and beaches on the island including Tonote Bay where Neil saw a baby atlantic reef shark up close while snorkelling. We shared the taxi with two guys, Anthony and Jack, we had met when travelling to the island from Bangkok and we had all ended up on the same stretch of beach. The taxi's on the island are quite an experince as the roads are rough tracks and you sit in the back of a four wheel drive pick up getting bounced around in the sunshine. Later in the week we all went to Shark Bay where juevenille reef sharks were often seen. We were hopeful but didn't see any.
A couple of evenings, including our last one we walked over to Sairee Beach for the evening. We had a great last night with the guys eating barbequed seafood, drinking "buckets" of local whisky and coke and then watching the fire spinners on the beach.
