Had a really quite straightforward crossing into Laos yesterday morning, with only a small amount of additional payment for stamping our visas. We opted to stay at one of the the Four Thousand Islands, Don Det and about as far South as you can get in Laos. We are staying in a bamboo hut that overlooks the Mekong River and the whole place is completely chilled and works at a romantically slow pace. Having walked right the way round the island yesterday afternoon (it didn't take long but it was hot!) I have just spent most of this morning in a hammock on our little balcony reading, bliss. The stories of snow in England feels very far away!
The sunset over the river is incredible, with the sky going a range of orange, red and then purple unlike I have seen before. It really dis look the horizon was on fire. A must see with a Beer Lao or fresh friut shake in your hand. I could have seem it quite well from my hammock but I made the effort to go to a restaurant!
