We arrived in Ho Chi Minh City late last night after our 9 hour bus ride turned into 12. Heather got stuck at the border crossing because her termperature was too high...so she had to sit with a thermometer her armpit and wait for it to go down. Itwas a little ironic because I have the symptoms of a cold, I REFUSE to admit i'm sick however, but it was Heather's termperature that was above average (probably a combination of the fact it was so hot and the stress of border crossings we think). We also had a man sneak across the border on our bus. He hid in the bathroom while the bus tour guide stood in front of the bathroom door, watching the vietnam police officer check everyone's passport and came out once we drove away - we didn't even know he was in there! :)
So far we really like Ho Chi Minh City. It's clean and the people seem friendly. The traffic is another matter though! You literally have to walk out into the street between moving vehicles and motorcycles galore and make your way across, while stopping to make sure no one is zipping from random directions. We had a nice man see we were nervous about crossing the street so he shifted down and crossed with us, telling us it was "alright......it's okay."
We went to the Independance Palace today and the War Remnants museum. The museum was very interesting and we both learned a lot. It told the whole story of the war between North and South Vietnam.
Tomorrow we have booked a tour of the Cu Chi tunnels, which are part of the tunnel system used during the war. It mightbe a bit claustrophobic but it should be interesteing! We have free internet so we will probably post tomorrow and tell you how it went!
