I met up with a few people on the tour this morning, and we all decided to go to the Cairo National Museum. We were going as part of the tour the next day, but because it is so big, we knew we'd need more than one day to do it in.
The cab ride was fun!! Even though the cab driver was going to charge 10,000 euro!! We got there, and the place was packed!! Unfortunately, they do not allow camera's in the Museum, but it was an amazing experience. We got to see the Treasures of King Tutankhamen, including the 11kg golden mask that was place over his head, two of the three sarcophagus' he was buried in, and the four boxes that the sarcophagus were in (Like one of those Russian Dolls). There were also lots of jewellery from his tomb, and lots of other statues and artefacts from the other Pharaohs in the Old and New Kingdoms.
Had lunch at the Museum cafe afterwards, and then decided to go back to the hotel. We called a cab, but had to wait about half an hour, so we went for a walk up the street and looked at the Nile.
Later in the afternoon, we caught a train to "Old Cairo" and visited St Peter's Cathedral, and wandered around the shops- saw the cat cafe, and got harassed by people trying to sell up stuff.
Got back to the hotel and had a nice long shower. We met in the main lounge for the official start of the tour. Our guide, Sharif, is a great bloke- very funny, and very knowledgeable about everything.
The night ended with more introductions, dinner, and then bed.
