Hello all,
Sorry about the slow updates of information and fotos. life as a gappie can be very hectic and i apologise. well where to start... last saturday night i attended a english and scottish celebration known as Burns Supper. the basic history of it is ..Robert Burns was a famous Rasputin-like lover and famous poet. the scottish celebrate his life with a traditional scottish dinner. the evening started with an entree, then the haggis was piped in by a bag piper, the haggis was toasted, the haggis was served as a course, then a main course followed by Scottish dessert. the night had speeches and toasts scattered throughout. after the meals were finished the 50 or so attendees headed upstairs to the staff bar and common room. the room had been cleared and a 'caylie' (not sure of spelling) started. even though i experienced the scottish dancing in Scotland on rugby tour in September i was terrible, as were the rest but it was a great time and a good laugh.. a fun night all round.
work has been pretty busy , juggling all the sport/duties etc. i am actually really enjoying coaching hockey. the pe classes are really well run, and often i get to join in. matt (the Sth African gappie who i am sharing a house with) and i had a game of squash the other day in pe. it seems that the Jason Warnock tennis and squash talents must have been passed on to Dave or Mark because i was struggling. I think i scored one point... i got to basically run a class yesterday. some of the 5th form classes are doing basketball in pe. noone in the pe department really has any idea about the game so the teacher asked me for some drills and what not. after telling him how to show the boys how to do it, he and i did a demonstration. it was quite funny becasue it was just basic passing but he wasnt very good, so just basically told the boys to 'do it like Scott's because his is perfect'. i then ran a few more drills and showed them some pointers on technique. thankfully ash, the teacher, didnt feel like i stepped on his toes and was thankful.
i share the coaching job of the 14C's hockey side with a few gents. i really enjoy it because it isnt a game i have played and i get a chance to get out there with the boys have a hit and a good laugh. this saturday our team is on the road to Deacon's a school in Peterborough. Glenn and i are heading off in a mini bus saturday midday and will get back round 4. then i am heading off to Nottingham for Saturday night. It is Australia Day and nick and i will celebrate it there. apparently there is another girl who i went to school with going there. 4 of us from TGS were going to catch up but katherine, is heading off to london for the weekend with some of her gappie mates. i met one of the guys yesterday because there school played ours at home in hockey. seems like a nice bloke and no doubt we will catch up in the future.
anyways, thats enough from me for now. please email me the news from back home. [email protected]. i heard about young heath ledger. libby and i (other aussie gap girl) were very shocked. lifestyle of the rich and famous eh? so yes, please email me stuff from back home, it will be good to hear from you all.
