Day 21 - 25/10/09 - Beijing (China)
It was a lazy morning this morning, before we headed to a bakery for lunch. After a delicious lunch, we headed to the subway and made our way to a large market for some bargaining.
Today was a successful shopping day with many bargains all round. We have figured the best way to get a sale is to walk away and have them shout at you to come back. Jess was referred to as "Hello, Money, come back Money!"
We are left wondering how many people pay too much for the items that are being sold here because they don't bargain...
Day 22 - 26/10/09 - Beijing (China)
Today we visited the Lama Temple, the Confucious Temple and the Drum Tower & Bell Tower.
The Lama Temple was filled with burning insense and was very smokey from this. It was beautiful and there were so many buddhas inside - one was that tall that all you could see from outside was up to his knees.
The Confusious Temple was a short walk away, and we stopped for lunch on the way. We are getting good at ordering by pointing at foods!
Next, we walked through the Hutongs to the Drum Tower and the Bell Tower. We climbed the 80-90 huge steps up, and were lucky enough to be there for the drum show that occurs for a few minutes every half hour. We also saw the water clock that was used in the past as the way to tell the time. The Bell Tower was also tall and steep to climb.
Take care - Jess & Scotty
