Well, today was a challenging day! We left Prague at 8:00 this morning, heading for Munich. The drive is usually 3.5 hours, and after being slowed by a number of roadworks, we reached Munich at 12:30. We drove straight to my grandfathers flat in Ofterdingenstrasse. Up bright and early this morning and headed towards the funicular to take us up to the Northern hills of Prague. On the way we stopped at a cafe our tour guide recommended called Cafe Savoy. All the waiting staff were dressed in black vests and bow ties and the ambience of the place was amazing. After a great breakfast, we started towards the funicular. We rose bright and early this morning to take a 6 hour walking tour of Prague. The tour was great. There were only 10 of us and Misha our guide was very knowledgable about the history of Prague. The city centre is composed of three main sections, the old town and the lesser town are about 700 years old and the new town is about 300 years old. Yesterday was a sad day. We said goodbye to Alex, and dropped her off at Tegel airport Berlin for her flight home. We have had such a ball together over the past 3 weeks. Lid and I couldn't sleep and were awake at 3:00am. Had to be up at 5:00 to take Alex to her flight. We continued on to Dresden, Lidia shedding a tear the entire way. What a softy! The next 3 days we spent in Berlin. What a brilliant experience. It was nothing like I expected. The buildings, monuments, museums, etc. are everywhere. It reminded me of Rome, every corner you turn is another incredible building or monument to take your breath away. A real surprise was how Berlin has dealt with their dark period of Nazism and the Holocaust.
