Braved the wet weather and went to the Paris Cemetery today where we saw the graves of Chopin, Oscar Wilde and Edith Piaf. The Chopin grave had a statue on it, and someone had placed some hand-written music in the arms of the statue. We can only guess that it was a composer who wanted Chopin to bless their music.
Oscar Wilde's grave had lipstick marks all over it. It is apparently a mecca for people who want to kiss his grave as he has become a cult figure for minority groups..
We also saw the grave of Edith Piaf and a stirring monument to the French Jews killed during the holocaust.
We then went back to Notre Dame where we waited for 1 hour 40 minutes to climb to the top. It was an awesome view from up there and just after we finished, the heavens opened and we were confined to our room for the rest of the day.
Alex and I went to see a medieval museum to avoid the rain, and some of it was interesting, but after an hour or so we were wondering if sticking a bodkin in our eyeballs would be a better use of our time.
That night we went to the Eiffel Tower for dinner. The views were spectacular, but the meals were ordinary. Particularly Alex's. We felt bad because she paid 130 euros for a plate of steamed veggies. Bad form Tour Eiffel 58! The French are supposed to be the best culinary experts in the world. You can't cook a simple vegetarian meal? Sacre Bleau!
Anyway, after that we took the train the Champ D'Elysees where Alex had to go to the loo so badly that we had to go into a bar where you couldn't use the dunny unless you bought a drink. 36 euros later, Alex's bladder was as empty as my wallet. We did get a couple of cosmos and some nice shots of the Arc De Triomphe though!
