We left Munich with a heavy heart today. What a fantastic city!
A short 3 hours drive later and we were in the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Salzburg, Austria. And boy, are they Mozart crazy! (Of course this may be due to the craploads of money they make out of selling every sort of Mozart souvenir imaginable!)
Salzburg is a very quaint city, with narrow, cobblestoned alleyways lined with shops and awesome signs above their shops that are unlike any other city I have seen. Even the McDonalds sign is in theme!
We haven't had much of a chance to explore as yet because we arrived too late and after exploring for a short time, the heavens opened and dropped a sea of water on us. We had to run back to the hotel and were both soaked to the bone after 1 minute.
Our hotel is magnificent, the Sacher hotel, which was founded by Franz Sacher, who invented the famous Sacher Torte, which of course, we had to sample in the hotel shortly after our arrival. The lounges and cafes in the hotel are luxurious and the hotel itself is placed right on the Salzach river with views across the river to the old town.
